The long, furrowed mark pulsed bright red, as if infected. The scar had never bothered me once it healed. Sometimes I even forgot for an hour or two at a time. What was the matter now? I straightened, rubbed my hand over my face, and looked again. The scar was just a scar. Puckered. White. Healed. ââ¬Å"Shit.â⬠I was losing my mind. I threw on some clothes, retrieved my weapons, and left the apartment. The remnants of the nightmare faded as I drove into Crow Valley. It wasnââ¬â¢t as if Iââ¬â¢d never had one before. Iââ¬â¢d just never had one in the daytime. Which disturbed me. Iââ¬â¢d been able to keep the nightmares at bay by sleeping when the sun shone. If that re-lief was gone to me, would I ever be able to sleep again? I didnââ¬â¢t want to think about it. So I didnââ¬â¢t. But since she didnââ¬â¢t go on duty until the sun went down, we still had time to do our job. Jessie opened the door before I even knocked, and shoved the fax into my hand. ââ¬Å"About time.â⬠ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s up your ass?â⬠She turned on me, and I blocked her punch with my forearm. She might have slammed me against the wall once, but that didnââ¬â¢t mean Iââ¬â¢d let her do it again. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m in no mood to play nice,â⬠I warned. ââ¬Å"Bitch, bitch, bitch.â⬠She stalked away, plopping onto the couch with a scowl. ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s the matter with you?â⬠I tried a more pleasant version of the same question. She glared at me. ââ¬Å"Willââ¬â¢s not back.â⬠ââ¬Å"Did you call him?â⬠ââ¬Å"Cell phoneââ¬â¢s off.â⬠ââ¬Å"Does he forget to turn it on?â⬠ââ¬Å"Every damn day.â⬠ââ¬Å"Then what are you worried about?â⬠ââ¬Å"Letââ¬â¢s see ââ¬â werewolves, vampires, zombies, witches, and all sorts of other things I donââ¬â¢t even know about. Then there are car accidents, mass murderers, blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, and various acts of God.â⬠I blinked. ââ¬Å"Gee, how do you sleep?â⬠ââ¬Å"When heââ¬â¢s not here, I donââ¬â¢t.â⬠Now that I looked closer, there were dark circles under her eyes; lines of stress bracketed her mouth. She was really worried, and I couldnââ¬â¢t say that I blamed her. ââ¬Å"Did you call any friendly state cops?â⬠ââ¬Å"You think Iââ¬â¢m a fool? Of course I called.â⬠ââ¬Å"And?â⬠ââ¬Å"Nothing.â⬠This was exactly what Iââ¬â¢d been talking about when I said attachments were a bad thing. Jessie wasnââ¬â¢t thinking of werewolves and serial killers; she was thinking of Will. ââ¬Å"If anything had happened, theyââ¬â¢d know about it, Jessie.â⬠ââ¬Å"Then where is he?â⬠I had no idea. But if I gave voice to any of my thoughts, sheââ¬â¢d only try to slug me again, so I glanced at the sheet of paper in my hand. ââ¬Å"Open Serial Killer Cases Where Cannibalism Is Suspected.â⬠What a lovely title. There were only two. Herman Reyes and some guy named Louis-Francois Charone. ââ¬Å"You said Hector was on here.â⬠ââ¬Å"Check out the place where they last saw Herman Reyes.â⬠I did. Topeka ââ¬â in the year my life ended. Hell. I lifted my gaze. ââ¬Å"Then Hector is Herman.â⬠ââ¬Å"You tell me.â⬠Jessie held out a photo. Dizziness rushed over me in a nauseating wave. Querida. The word whispered through the room. I swayed. ââ¬Å"Hey!â⬠Suddenly Jessie was there, catching me around the waist and holding me up. ââ¬Å"I guess I donââ¬â¢t have to ask if thatââ¬â¢s him.â⬠I shook my head. ââ¬Å"Here.â⬠She yanked out one of the dining room chairs. ââ¬Å"Sit.â⬠I did. She shoved my head between my knees, none too gently. ââ¬Å"Now breathe.â⬠I hated taking orders, especially from her. But I hated fainting even more, so I breathed. A glass of water appeared between my feet. I sat up and sipped. Jessie leaned against the table reading the rest of the faxed report. She lifted her eyes. I waited for her to ask if I was OK, if I needed to lie down, take a pill, see a doctor. ââ¬Å"I guess he changed his name,â⬠she said. She was going to pretend I hadnââ¬â¢t nearly taken a nosedive onto her carpet. I was going to let her. ââ¬Å"I guess. But why? Hector died in 1977. No one would think the two were the same man.â⬠ââ¬Å"Why take a chance?â⬠ââ¬Å"I suppose.â⬠This explained why I hadnââ¬â¢t been able to find him anywhere that Iââ¬â¢d searched. Heââ¬â¢d no doubt changed his name again. Jessie continued to read. Her lips tightened. ââ¬Å"What?â⬠She looked at me, then back at the paper. ââ¬Å"All of his victims have been the same type of woman.â⬠I knew I wasnââ¬â¢t going to like this, but I asked anyway. ââ¬Å"What type?â⬠ââ¬Å"Blond, petite.â⬠ââ¬Å"Hell.â⬠Had Hector planned on killing me, too? Why hadnââ¬â¢t he? ââ¬Å"Let me see that report.â⬠ââ¬Å"No.â⬠ââ¬Å"I could make you.â⬠She snorted. ââ¬Å"I doubt that.â⬠Since I was still dizzy and my hands were shaking, she was probably right. ââ¬Å"He was a serial killer then and is a Weendigo now,â⬠she murmured, ââ¬Å"satisfying his need for like flesh in both forms.â⬠ââ¬Å"But how did he become a Weendigo in the first place? Isnââ¬â¢t that an Ojibwe warrior cursed by the great spirit?â⬠I asked. ââ¬Å"The great mystery.â⬠ââ¬Å"Whatever. Hector was a lot of things, but Ojibwe wasnââ¬â¢t one of them.â⬠ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m not sure how the whole cursed-by-a-mystery works. Weââ¬â¢ll have to ask Will.â⬠The reminder that Cadotte wasnââ¬â¢t back yet when he should have been caused a shadow of fear to tighten her face. ââ¬Å"Do you think Hectorââ¬â¢s here?â⬠I blurted. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢ll know soon enough.â⬠ââ¬Å"How?â⬠She lifted the photo. ââ¬Å"I show this to my deputy. El-wood is a nosy old coot. He knows everyone in Crow Valley. If Hector is in town, Elwoodââ¬â¢s met him. Weââ¬â¢ll nail Herman/Hectorââ¬â¢s ass within a day.â⬠I was glad she had confidence, because I didnââ¬â¢t. Iââ¬â¢d dealt with Hector. He was one scary dude. And he was up to something. I just knew it. How to cite Night Creature: Hunterââ¬â¢s Moon Chapter 19, Essay examples

SEO Growth Hacks
by Eric Hoppe Growth hacks are tips and tricks that you can use to get your online presence off to a flying start. The following SEO growth hacks can get your brand noticed online and help your website quickly rise up the search engine results pages. Be Accessible to All Your Users If your site is accessible to only a certain type of user, then you are limiting your growth. Now that mobile users are roughly equal in number to desktop users, you need to make sure your site is accessible to all types of devices, including computers, tablets and phones. That means using responsive design principles and HTML5 to make sure that all elements of the site display properly on mobile devices as well as on desktop computers. If your site is not usable on mobiles and tablets, then you could see your search rankings struggling to rise at all, as search engines interpret the high number of users bouncing away from your site as evidence that it is not a relevant or high-quality search result. Listen to Your Users The fastest way to grow your online presence is to create unique website content that people want to share with others. If your content offers nothing original to readers, then all the SEO tricks in the world wonââ¬â¢t help you. To refine your SEO article writing strategy, listen carefully to the feedback your users are giving you. Are they engaged enough to leave comments praising or criticizing your posts? Or are they bouncing away from the page without bothering to read to the end? By paying attention to both direct and indirect feedback, you can work out what types of content your readers prefer and instruct your blog writer accordingly. Focus on Your Niche As well as being high quality, the unique content on your site must be relevant to your niche. As well as picking the right topics, that means including relevant keywords. If youââ¬â¢re trying to make your mark as an online business, then using long-tail keywords can be a good way to target search engine traffic. These highly specific keywords face less competition from other sites, so you can quickly dominate them. Use Visual Content Readers love visual content, such as pictures and videos. According to Hubspot, videos are 12 times as likely to be shared on Facebook as text posts or links. Investing a little time into creating a video that can be shared over an over again could be a very effective way of growing your brandââ¬â¢s online presence. Be Social Media Savvy Social media is the key to growth for a new business or online brand. The most time-efficient way to maintain a presence on all the major social networks is to use a web tool that can automatically update all your profiles at once when you add new content to your site. Encourage Engagement Are you doing everything you can do encourage your readers to connect? You need your readers to act as your advocates, sharing your content on social media so that it reaches the largest possible audience. You can make it easy for them to do this by embedding social sharing buttons into your site. Conclusion By following the SEO growth hacks given above, you can ensure that your site quickly gains visibility in the search engine results pages. Remember to focus on creating content that is relevant to your niche, rich in keywords and highly shareable.
